Breeding Rottweilers December 11, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I did not find that this book had any more info. about breeding than any other rottweiler book. This book didn't give dimentions of welping box (and it's about breeding) yet two other books I own give them and there a reg. rottie book. I plan on selling this book on e-bay because I didn't find it that useful. If you know nothing and have no other books you would enjoy the info. which is why I rated it a 3. Thanks.
This book only touches the bare basics of breeding! July 21, 1998 I was excited to receive this book and after reading it was disappointed! It has far too many pictures of Rottweilers and the print is large, as if to cover enough paper to make a book. A few disturbing photographs I viewed included the docking of tails and removal of dewclaws without wearing sterile gloves, an unsanitary condition. Puppies should be taken to the Vet and only experienced, not beginning, breeders should dock tails and removed dewclaws. Some misinformation was also added to the book, a bitch for instance needs to have her OFA certification before being bred, which is not possible until the bitch is 24 months of age and yet the author says that the bitch should not be bred before her second season. A few important aspects of breeding have been included while others such as OFA for hip and elbow dysplasia, CERF, heart and thyroid clearances, von Willebrand and brucellosis as well as temperament testing, for both stud and bitch, have been left out. Anyone bu! ying this book needs to do further study about breeding dogs responsibly, this book is only skindeep!
